Thank you Wylie yes the seeds of Primroses need a cold spell to germinate but once grown I doubt they will need a really cold spell mine come back no matter what winter we have.

3PB, I where you bought this!!! I bought one on Friday on impulse, thought the colour so unusual! 3x the price of my 50p tray of six pink ones.

Wow! Those are some beautiful, unique flowers! I wish I could grow them here. Maybe this year I could have gotten away with growing them with all the rain and below temps. Typically in winter it's too hot and dry for them.

Thank you Andy yes they don't do well in very dry conditions they do better in hardy areas.

I've tried them several times during winter and they just shrivel up and die! :>{

Yes they prefer shade I ve found you could try spraying them with water as the foliage burns best to do this out of the sun. .

It's the extremely dry, hot Santa Ana Winds which cause the problems in winter. The humidity can go down to 4 or 5 % which desiccates and burns the plants.

That's a shame shows we have native plants for a good reason in each country to cope with its weather contontions.

Yes, and they have to tolerate the high temps above 90F/33C in winter with the very low humidity. It's happening more and more.

I find it odd my self as most countries weather is altering yet my daughters friend has been living in Germany for decades and she said after coming back here the seasons and weather are the same in Germany as we use to get here in the UK.
Last year we did nt get a spring as such this year it seems we had April showers a few weeks back with the wind. We have a saying here if March comes in like a lion (very windy) it will go out like a lamb (mild) or if March comes in like a lamb it will go out like a lion. This year it came in like a lion now its going out like a lamb. I ll wait to see if we get April showers now.

I like these, but they must be one of those that need a very cold period.
