These are very marginal hardiness trees here. They never reach the epic sizes they do in the tropics. But,its really nice to see them..and pick a couple dozen fruits a year of various sizes.
This tree is about 10' tall.

Keeping them in flush makes for a good looking little tree Kate.
Unusually cool and wet May here. I'm pleased the Mangoes persevere.

As plants age Penny..the hardy factor goes up. At 9 years old and now 6 in the ground I doubt very much it would be flushing in this cool weather when i first bought as a 3' stick,or less. Actually in 2012 when I still had it in a pot a freeze killed it within 6" of the soil line. I had to really baby it for a few years after that.
Now here it is in 55f (13C) rains (today) and just blooming up a storm.

It's done really good from nearly dead Stan.

Stan,
It's going to be a horrible season for mangoes this year. Way too wet and cool during their flowering season. Many mango trees here started flowering in January when it was way too wet. Last year it was 90 plus degrees and extremely dry in January. The mango trees had huge clusters of fruit.

I meant to add your mango tree looks excellent!
My little mango tree I planted last year hasn't done anything. It wants to flush growth; however, is just sitting right now with buds everywhere. Hopefully, it'll grow soon!

The two of them are flushing,Andy. The Champagne/Autalfo/Honey Mango is also flushing some deep RED leaves. Very dark shiny red. I got to post that alone.
All this cold and rains is not good for fruit set so we will see.
I thought it was a goner Penny. I should post a photo of that tree like 2 years after the killback..like a Bonsai Mango.

There's several mango trees here flushing growth for the last couple of months. My tree is just sitting with buds waiting for hot weather! lol! The Plumerias are doing the same thing!

Its what very young mangoes do I guess Andy. They sit until the real heat of summer kicks in. Mine were like that. Than they progressed to flowering in cooler spring weather than I expected. That then changed to ..this year with flushing and flowering at the same time. First time I think I've seen that in the month May.
My banana's came out ok. Not creamy sweet but more sweet with a hint of apple flavor. Nothing that I would tell people "You must have".
My Suebelle Sapote is really delivering sweet fruit. Really good. Chilled..and I tried some with salt?..noT bad. Still, all regular flavor is healthiest. Watch that BP!

Stan,
I have read and saw on YouTube videos that the trees need to develop a sizable root system first before they really start growing.
My bananas are growing; however, not like they usually grow, though. Everything needs tons and tons of fertilizer here. Too much to do and not enough time. Ugh! Lol! I'm going to hire a gardener very soon to do a MAJOR garden overhaul.

I was out again near Bruce drive..and it was at least 5f warmer then Hayward when I left. What a great microclimate..all that warm and very little frost. Even the whole Palm lined avenues says it's been a favored climate by locals for over a century. Has a tropical aura to it. I wish I could move there.
Right now, just watering here as they say record amounts of water are flowing. At least for this year!
