Hi Linda, I can't make it out really, even on magnification, but I would have a guess at chafer grubs, have a look at the link below, Derek.

Well, this happens every year at the same time. We have a wild flower walk near us and today I couldn't sit in the back garden as it looked like it was snowing Dandelion clocks.
Tomorrow I will cut the grass and hopefully remove most of them. I find it very upsetting as I imagine them all growing to adulthood. Luckily for me this doesn't happen.
The tall trees in the front garden keep out the floating seed heads.

Wow that would be a nightmare if they grew I hope you manage to clear them all. If I see one growing I pull the flower head off with my helping hand.

Linda do you have any willow trees near you ? they give off fluffy stuff almost like cotton wool , we stayed somewhere a couple of years ago when it happened it was very strange I hadn't seen it like that before ...

Amy you are correct. I have walked round my neighbourhood looking at trees and the people next door have a Salix caprea (Goat willow). It still has a fair amount of fluff to drop onto my back garden. I have removed a lot with the lawnmower but I will have to do it again. I am glad it isn't Dandelions. Thanks.

Hi Linda, sorry, I was looking at the orangey / yellow thing on the right hand side, didn't realize you meant the actual lawn, Derek.

Thanks everyone. It isn't as bad today but of course there is always next year.
I couldn't figure out why I was the only one with the problem when I went for a walk around yesterday.
Unfortunately it is a pretty large tree with lots of catkins.

At least you are fortunate in that they won't grow - unlike the Dandelion seeds!

Yes, Balcony, I don't get a lot of Dandelions. I should have twigged to this one earlier.

I'd be tempted to take a leaf blower to their tree and aim it at their house! lol... reminds me of the common swamp willows in the far north. the fluff would land on anything and rain would glue it down... then it would sprout in plain water! Horrible weed... and I don't use that word lightly! lol..
