That was when I lived in a different zone, Julia! Now I'm in zone 4 and pyracanthas are only hardy to zone 6. Still I like the thorny bushes ... I also like hawthorn..but that's another tree that's chancy where I live now.

looks lovely and healthy. such a lovely colour.
I have a bad memory of removing a barberry hedge for a neighbour on the hottest day of July... she gave me the plants so I took my time and got the worst sunburn of my life...along with hundreds (it seemed) of little black shafts under my skin that erupted and caused a rash..on top of sunburn! I lived in a townhouse at the time and wanted a plant that would discourage short cut takers across my front path. it worked admirably for that purpose!
