LOL! I absolutely love mangoes, too!
My little mango tree is finally growing. I hope one day I will get mangoes! My other mango tree died when it was crowded out by other plants. Mango trees need full, hot sun! The mango trees here around San Diego are putting out their second flush of growth now.

I have never forgotten...on our honeymoon...30 years ago. We had a tour of an old Colonial Estate in St Lucia. the tour guide told us that all the Mangoes sold in the UK are dire. The best mangoes are varieties called ‘Julia’ and ‘Graham’. These are the ones the Islanders eat. They aren't fibrous like the ones sold in our supermarkets. I’ve never forgotten it. But I’ve never seen either variety for sale here! 😀

Of course nowadays we hardly import any food from the Windies which is unforgiveable in my book, after what we did on those Islands. I hope that this might change after Brexit!

“Commonwealth” ?aye...that’ll be right.

This mango was not the least bit fibrous! I think that's part of the reason I loved it so much... just delicious eating and no cotton mouth! and yes! to "commonwealth" I've always been critical of the geographic imperative of being the top half of the North American Continent. Too much of our natural resources go south to the U.S. or west across the Pacific..when they could go east to the motherland!
LOL! well of course, Julia. I found a label on the other mango, Karen, It says Ixtapa, Mexico. #4959..but I'm making note of "Julia" and "Graham"..lol. there was talk a few years back that Canada could offer affiliation to the Turks and Caicos. Kind of like the U.S. and Puerto Rico. not sure "colonialism" is the answer in these days... but better trade agreements could work.

Lori,
Yes, mangoes are the best! lol! Home-grown mangoes are the absolute best!
The fiberless ones are my favorite. There's several varieties grown in Southern California. The largest acreage of mangoes in California are grown in the Coachella Valley in the desert (about 110 miles) north-east of San Diego. They grow the Keitt variety. They are the best! Very sweet, large mangoes which are fiberless.

making note of that variety too, D1. Thankyou!
