When we planted up, this 'up-cycled' toilet cistern, we didn't realise that the two Labelia came with four free tomatoe plants.... <];-)) These will be promptly repotted .... I will take a photo in a few months time, if any fruit trusses develop.

Brilliant idea - what is the coating on the cistern?

Hi Sue, it was a very thick plastic cistern (not ceramic). I rubbed it with some really coarse sandpaper to put scratches in the surface then painted it with a very thin mortar mix (sand, cement and water) using an old emulsion brush. I added some york stone masonry paint to the mix. When dry I gave it a couple more coats of york stone masonary paint. I used the same method in the blog I did ..... 1 May 2014 "Old Planter Restoration" (Small Project), which gives a bit more detail. We used to plant in the three holes at the front, but I need to make the holes a little bigger to get the plant root balls in.
Hi Paul, guess your busy at work?
