thank you Shirley! it has thorns and they're the same colour as the blooms... a lovely pink. this winter I promised it a cloche and some extra TLC.

yes! Phoenix is even better, Thanks Stan. It must be a rambler as it put out very long "canes" the first couple of years. It was in a south facing corner so it didn't get good light in the afternoon... the rose chafers destroyed the blossoms and it seemed to go down from there... I lifted it and put it in a sunnier spot... but this spring with all the freeze/thaw/freeze going on, it looked like it was cooked. I gave it lots of water and told it..."you're on your own, kid." so Phoenix she is! these blooms are done and I've pruned her back to a 6 leaf. fingers crossed.
