sorry to hear that, Shirley. We've had fewer than in previous years, especially the White Admiral and the yellow eastern swallowtail... BUT... I've fostered a few Monarchs this year by keeping patches of wild Asclepias from being mowed under. I've seen Painted Ladies this year..which were even more rarely seen in previous years. A moratorium on spraying certain herbicides and neonics in the province has had a beneficial effect on their numbers. We have a new "slash and burn" Premier this year...so who knows if these environmental laws will fall under his axe.
