Can't remember the type. Very large: main fruit in pic over 6 inches. Final colour might remind me of the name...
White flowers. Long fruit flowering low causes problems when they touch the soil- skin blemishes & slug damage

Well they should go some way to disguising the taste of the kale...

Seems like the things I've learnt about chillies the last few years is they're really prone to bugs & stuff indoors or in greenhouse conditions. Why the heck UK slugs seem to really like chillies they can get to is a mystery?
If I had any tips for successful growing it'd be choose the right type for what you want. I've got loads of black Hungarian wax, they're nice plants but the chillies are really mild. If you're going to have annoying problems with them might as well grow some with chilli heat? Jalapeños or cayenne. Start them really early indoors then put them in to the biggest pots you've got outdoors in the sunniest spot. They do seem to respond well to the most changeable weather.
How did the jam turn out?

Hot! But its ok I think. I’m going to get my SIL to try it this week and see if he likes it.

I've made it a couple of times, I really liked it. I'll have to look for the recipe I used, it seemed a nice balance between sweet & sour.
Used three of the green chillies in the pic in a veg pilaf earlier, there's some heat but it's gone almost as soon as you notice it

I just made it the same way as I would make any jam....sugar, chillies and pectin. Nothing else. I do like chillies, but only mild heat. I'm not a fan of hot ones. I once ate one in the Indian Restaurant and I was in a mess....so uncomfortable...and also quite funny for my OH! I won't be doing that again. I bet it wasn't even a hot one...but it was too hot for me.

De-seeding 30 or 40 chillies isn't much fun either 😊
I must've changed this recipe from US cup measures:
8 fluid ounces Sugar
4 fl oz Water
6 fl Oz White or Cider Vinegar
30 Chillies chopped- think I used Cayenne or Jalapeño
Tsp Salt
Good splash Lemon Juice
Enough Pectin to just set.
Method's obvious - mix liquids, put on heat, add chopped chillies, gradually stir in sugar till dissolved then pectin.
A pinch of paprika boosts colour without changing flavour noticeably

Darren, I made a jar of chilli jam yesterday. Thought why not? They are fruit after all..good way to preserve them. My chillies got mould and two of the three are gone. Such a pity. But with all this wet...not surprising.
