Hi Sheila, I think you may be taking your cuttings at the wrong time, you should take softwood cuttings in early summer, or semi ripe cuttings in mid summer, if you have a thermostatically controlled propagator, you can sow seed of border perennials at 55 - 64 deg f in late winter or spring.this is a link to a you tube video for taking cuttings, but it doesn't say when to take them.

What a gorgeous collection. My older ones are only just coming into flower, as are the ones from packet seed although I sowed early this Spring. Think that's as my soil is bone dry.

How frustrating, next yeardecide which type of cutting you're going to do, cut the stem of the selected piece, about 6" long, just above a leaf joint, take out the growing point, trim off the leaves lower down the stem, make a clean cut just below a leaf joint, or node, to leave a stem about 3" long, put the cuttings in a mix of multi-purpose and horticultural grit, and put about 4 or 5 cuttings around the edge of a pot, push some small canes into the pot to support a plastic bag as a cover, fasten with an elastic band around the pot, and put it somewhere bright but not in direct sunlight, [sorry I should have said ''after watering''],
they should root in about 4 to 6 weeks, hope this helps, Derek.

What a great selection, we bought ours from Hayloft last year, so early days for some of them, noticed a few of the older ones are about to flower!! such good value plants aren't they?

We have most of these Hb they are our favourite summer plants they bloom for months , My OH is an expert at taking cuttings he has dozens in pots , follow Dereks instructions you'll have plenty of new plants next year also I found out in my previous garden that its possible to peg a stem down into the ground layering it , it will root ready to transplant another year ...

You've got nothing to lose Angela ,it does work .... choose a nice long side shoot ,dig a little furrow lay the stem in it peg it at a joint cover with soil ,put a marker stick beside it ,its easy to forget where it is over winter ,good luck :o)
