Species Juno iris, native to Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Jordan and Syria. Hardy, but flowering so early, it can be affected by the British winter weather. For full sun in well-drained soil, growing to about ten inches. This dark form is sought-after but rare

No, the raised bulb bed. This has really sharp drainage, like an alpine bed. If the weather gets really bad, it is easy to put some sort of cover over it to protect the flowers

A lovely rich colour, and the flash adds to it. Good luck for it in your scree area?
