Sometimes I don't cut mine back much for the reason that I like to see them scrambling. I think it's their natural growth and as you say it looks as if there's two different flowers on the same shrub :)

Yes thats great Hywel yiu let yours scramble too. They look lovely scrambling dont they ? The only reason these past few years I ve had to let it scramble is because I cant get to it and I dont just the others to untangle it now I like it like this I will leave it scramble lol.

What a beautiful clematis Thrup, it's very happy scrambling through your tulip tree. Do you know this is the first year I've cut back my clems, and pleased to say they are all shooting strongly now, I was holding my breath!

Thank you Janey I use to cut this back every year but no longer can reach it tp umtamgle as nearly all clematis get cut back in early spring last time I checked as I had so many once so pleased yours are shooting up nicely . 😊
