Papaver orientalis ex Karina

Very intense colour!

They can be a menace if you want to get them out, can't they? I like this one but if it's in the wrong place it gets irritating! I have a muddy plum one which was misnamed (again) and I can't get it to die off, try as I might. The blooming thing is even bigger this year and has even more flower heads. Why don't the things you love show such tenacity?

Ange, I am so grateful that you pointed this out. I have never grown them, but this year one has self-seeded in my pink and blue border and its bound to be orange. Now you've said this I will dig it out before it gets any bigger! Thanks :)

Karen: I found the same this year with some anchusa 'Dropmore' I grew from seed last year. They grew much bigger than their allotted space so I dug them out (or so I thought) in the Autumn. Every single one has reappeared!!

Well, I've tried to grow Anchusa, but it doesn't like my soil, so I shan't have 'that' problem at least! :)
