Yes we can only do our best as you say some time our weather can cause havoc nothing we can do then.

It didn't suffer any bad effects from the couple of days of very strong winds. The plants that most suffered were the Begonias as, being very fleshy, the wind burns the foliage & breaks the leaves off.

Lots of petals on the Geraniums were also blown off but the plants themselves are OK.

Some Nasturtium seedlings have been damaged & a couple I'm not sure will survive.

What a shame what the wind has done I find it dries the soil out too it has affected some of my plants too epecially my delphinium.

Delphiniums being so tall are especially prone to wind damage. :(

With the strong winds over the weekend by Begonias are looking much the worse for wear! :( Every time I go out onto the balcony I find pieces of their leaves or petals or, worse still, buds. ;(

Yes of course the height does nt help in these winds. I recall they do a begonia where the flowers dont drop like the normal ones.

These mostly drop because the strong winds cause them to fall off not because it's an inherent defect.

With today's warmth & the coming few days I expect many buds to open so that the balcony looks good again.

I should have learnt from last year when the same thing happened. Next year I may put Geraniums in the rings on the top of the balcony railings. They flower as profusely as the Begonias & even though the wind may rip the petals off the plants replace the flowers in just a few days & they are more resistant to windburn.

Yes I have Geraniums hanging over the 6ft fences which the wind has not affected at all and it get very windy where they are so they would be a better choice for your rings.

Thanks, 3d, for confirming my idea. :)
