thanks Kate! the large deciduous tree is a black walnut, and the five trunks are fir trees... very tall and they've started cracking when the wind blows... it's a worry. told the OH to park the car closer to the house because if the top comes off of any one of them it will land on it!

You have a beautiful home there Lori..
There's always something to fret over isn't there, you worrying about those lovely trees, puts into perspective my anxiety over my guttering!

Oh jings, that is a worry, Lori. They look so grand and beautiful. I can appreciate your fears. Yes, parking the car away from them sounds logical. Would you think about taking some height off the trees or isn’t this an option? Saying that, it’d be a shame as the height and form enhance their attractiveness.

I had a woodsman in to take down a split Manitoba Maple and a dead fir tree (the 6th tree of this group) and it cost me hundreds of dollars to have them taken down and cut up. That is why I now have 2 chainsaws! ..and more work than I have energy for. Trees are marvellous and they provide benefits like fruit and nuts or windbreak and shade but when they become diseased or weak they present a challenge to electricity and telephone wires and houses and people, should they succumb to gravity! This autumn, I'm hoping for some help getting previously cut wood out of the bush...( from the trees which have fallen on their own). there are a number of trees which should be removed as well, and some very large trees which are dead from the top down that pose a danger as well. it's a daunting prospect.
