It was a sudden idea.it's a good thing my OH has enormous patience...I had painted it a gold colour to match the new arch in the centre..such a prickly job....Due to the leak under the steps(which is to be repaired next week)the climbing rose and clematis on one side were suffering. Taking the bull by the horns,the arch was removed and the rose and clematis carefully untangled.An obsolete obelisk(that's tricky to say) was used for their support. The area has opened up considerably.Now we have to construct the rockery.Photos to follow.

He has never shown an interest in gardening, which suits me well, but since retiring a couple of years ago he takes more notice of the plants and mows the lawn now! Today, whilst having a cuppa in the small sunhouse, I said that a couple of Gladioli needed a cane to prop them up. He promptly went to the shed and came back with the tallest cane we have! Oh well, the thought was there ... :o)

Oh, he will dig a large planting hole, or remove a shrub if I suggest it but that's because of my dodgy heart!! Don't tell anyone, but he's going to be 67 tomorrow .....
