Begonia grandis subsp evansiana - 2020 (Begonia grandis)

Hardy begonia, happy in a sheltered and lightly shaded position. I planted this 13 years ago so it even came through the bad winter of 2010. Increases underground by bulbils

We went down to -10C here that winter, although it's usually only -5C for me

Yes, I've had mine for many moons. This year I've had to restrict its exuberance, once it got going, that is, it is alway very late into grow.

Yes, it's one of those plants that gets you worried as it's so late into growth. Did your Red Gurkha finally show up? Mine was disappointing, with only a couple of flowers, but has now started flowering again - I've never known it do that before

Thanks for inquiring about Red Gurka. It had one flower stem earlier. It seemed stress in the heat but then quadrupled its stems and has flowered superbly. Two years since I bought, I think.

Sbg - there's also a white-flowered version. It's in heavier shade as it's only just coming into bud, but I hope to post a photo of it soon
