Hardy Hibiscus

This is a volunteer. Not sure where it came from, but I'm going to try to nurture it into a small tree. I love the pure white

It’s very pure white isn’t it! Look forward to seeing its progress..

It's in the right spot so no need to transplant. Would love to see it grow into a small tree.

That’s a very bright white! I used to have Hibiscus arnottianus which looks very similar and has a very sweet-smelling flower. It’s native to Hawaii, like me. Lol

This hibiscus is a volunteer, but I hope it grows. I didn't know you were Hawaiian. Cool! I've never been to Hawaii, but heard about black sand beaches. I would go for that reason alone. Are those volcanoes still going - the lava flows and billowing clouds of sulfur dioxide?

It looks awesome!

I’m not Hawaiian; however, my family has been in Hawaii for over 100 years.

I haven’t been back in 10 years. ☹️ Too much going on this last decade. I was supposed to go in April to scatter my dad’s ashes, but then COVID-19 hit!

Kilauea has been active since 1982. The once very large black sands beach is only a small fraction of what it was before a major lava hit it years ago.

The pictures I've seen are unbelievable. I may go if it all calms down.

Probably 2022 will be a better year for traveling.

Thanks Andy. Sorry about your dad. My dad passed about 5 years ago. He was my best friend. Since I got back from living in Africa and Asia, I have no desire to get on a plane again. I've been content with my weekend getaways to Fire Island. It's a fun summer place with amazing beaches, night clubs, restaurants and everything else. That's over now with the arrival of Autumn.

Thank you. It’s been a very tough 3 years. I helped my dad for the two years he was sick. We were very close. I miss him a lot!

One day I’ll get to New York, again. My month-long East Coast trip was cancelled in July due to COVID-19. Maybe next year. I’d love to get to Fire Island! One day, hopefully before I get too old! LoL

LOL maybe we can do a house-swap. San Diego!? yeh, ok, I'll get on a plane for that!. I'll give you Fire Island and New York City. :)
