Our pet Mr. Kaja (white faced cockatiel )

Our pet Mr. Kaja (white faced cockatiel )

He is with us for 26 years now. Very bright bird. We underestimated birds intelligence until we got him.
We can train him to do certain things but mostly he can train us to do "things" for him.

What a pretty bird. Can he speak? They are very intelligent birds. 26 years? Wow! What is the average life span for these? What does he like to eat? name?

Bathgate, If you believe the numerous writings they live between 16-25 years. He can imitate sounds and can perfectly whistle several songs.Beside his seeds and veggies he loves to eat all human food including ice cream and chicken.

He's so sweet , it fascinates me to know a bird will willingly stay when it could fly to freedom ...

Klahanie, I had a strange bird visit me last Spring. I'm still a little baffled. Would you like to see a couple pictures of him? It will blow your mind. Here's the link to my blog.

He has no interest in flying away Amy. We can walk around with him in the garden and he just sticks with us. I really do not know why. He will fly when he gets spooked but not very far.

Bathgate, I enjoyed your blog. He is a cutie and seems friendly and smart as well. Interesting story too. Thanks.

Wow! He’s a beauty, Klahanie! 26 years too, he obviously loves your company as you do his. Nice that he stays close by too.
I noticed when I popped into the local shop earlier in the week, a man walked in with his parrot - on his shoulder. I’ve since been told it’s a macaw. What a beauty. Her name was Scarlett - heard the shop assistant talking to the chap and she obviously had spoken to him before.
Scarlett was trying her hardest to pull his face mask off! She was quite a big parrot, vivid red and green. As soon as I left the shop, I heard her talking to the shop assistant! Then, I watched from the car as Scarlett had obviously managed to get her owners mask off - she proudly held it in her beak. I wonder if she was tied to his shoulder or - as one of my patients mentioned, had her wings clipped? - lovely to see she was out and about...

Thanks for the story Kate. Made me smile. Macaws are quite bigger and maybe noisier and more demanding? But I would not know.

We have a friend that has an African grey parrot .He is amazing talker and a great entertainer but much more demanding than our Mister Kaja. And they can live for 60 years.

Mister Kaja is such an striking fellow, thank you for posting his lovely pic!
