Phoenix roebellenii - Pigmy Date Palms

My Pigmy date palms are getting tall, 7’ or (2.5 m) tall. I planted them as very small palms around 14 years ago. Photo taken Jan. 13, 2021.

They usually top out at 18 ft (5.5 m). Most species of Phoenix grow to more than 50 ft (15 m) tall.

If you do a search for Phoenix roebellenii you’ll see a lot of my pics. It’s an extremely common palm in California. They’re a dime a dozen.

It’s very widely used in front of commercial buildings. (Maybe overused).

Sounds like the way pampas grass is used here.

If it’s easy they use it. Pampas grass grows wild here, especially in the canyons along with Agave americana, Washingtononia robusta, Phoenix canariensis, Nicotiana glauca.

How tall do they actually get then? 7' is quite tall, but compared to normal date palms I guess they are pigmy.
