This Bismarck Palm in Balboa Park has a strange curved trunk. I think it’s because it’s very close to the Australian Banyan tree. Photo taken Nov. 15, 2020.

Have to concur! It’s a beautiful, architectural plan. It would be a perfect stand alone plant in any garden.

It needs a lot of space, though. It becomes a huge palm.

Klahanie,
There’s 30 to around 50 ft tall trees here, however, they’ve only been in cultivation for 40 years. The trees in Madagascar grow to 125 ft. (They’re probably 100 years plus years old).

I know, it’s a beautiful palm. This one is kind of small usually the fronds are gigantic. I think it needs more water. There’s several throughout Balboa Park.
