It’s a very old cooking apple tree, Bramley I believe. I had left it far too long and am hoping the light that will be able to encourage grass underneathth the tree and also encourage the back border to do better. Filled two wheelie bins, one car load of thick wood went to gardener and finally 6 dumpy bags full as well!!

Seaburngirl- it’s a job I despise as well! That’s why I’d left it so long!

Oh yes - getting rid of the prunings is a pain. We do so miss being able to have a bonfire. And come to think of it, the trips to the tip are as polluting as the bonfire smoke when all's said and done... Hope your efforts will be rewarded by a bumper crop in a couple of years!
