Bigleaf maple / Acer macrophyllum on moody day

Bigleaf maple / Acer macrophyllum on moody day

The largest maple tree in Canada, reaching 40 metres
Native to low elevations of PNW region.
The sap has a low sugar content so it takes a large quantity of sap to make a small amount of syrup. Natives used it for making dishes, pipes and paddles.

It was a love at first sight for me when we first visited this property and partly the reason why we bought it
Still love this old big fat girl.

I have a lot of sympathy with old, big, fat girls, Klahanie! It's a beautiful specimen. Can I come and sit in that chair and enjoy the view??

She certainly look a grand dame. Have you any idea how old your tree might be?

It is a fabulous view. Go for it Ange ... the whole island is beautiful and unspoilt and quite wild in some parts ๐Ÿ™‚.

Sheila, according to the news today, it won't be any time soon, looking at the potential restrictions on foreign travel which are hoving into view. Just when the travel industry was getting excited...

How idyllic is this picture! Lovely old lady isnโ€™t she, with the secret door and little doll nearby...itโ€™s a story in itself!
The trunk is very rustic with the moss at the bottom and the slightly contorted shape!
Iโ€™m guessing Iโ€™m going to have to wait my turn for the pretty white chair....
