Dead Canary Island date palms. It’s a very sad sight here in Balboa Park and throughout south San Diego. The South American palm weevil is killing thousands of Canary Island palms and Brahea edulis (Guadalupe palm). Almost 11 thousand palms have been killed by this palm weevil since it migrated up from Mexico 10 years ago.

Not sure exactly how the palm weevil got into San Diego, but it migrated from Mexico.

that is so sad. Was it a natural migration or was it enhanced by imports?
