Pheasant nesting in a concrete planter.

Bless!! This - ok I’d say vulnerable, but they must know best!!! - pheasant is nesting in a concrete planter outside a patients house in one of the villages I visited this morning in Lincolnshire...the patient relayed there are THIRTEEN eggs being incubated!!!!!!!

That's a beautiful close-up. Even the ladies have intricately patterned feathers. I hope some of her brood survive. Perhaps she's a first-time mother, that would explain a rather odd nesting site choice, perhaps.

Hi Sheila and Ange, I was surprised to see her nesting here - think the patients and his family keeping an eye out. Saying that, it’s not possible 24/7..
I was amazed when they said they’d counted 13 eggs! Phenomenal!!!
I really hope there is a happy ending 🤞

Thats wonderful ,hopefully you'll see the little ones on your rounds one day , we used to have a Mr & Mrs Pheasant in our previous garden but sadly nothing like that here ...

Wow. I wonder if 13 eggs is exceptional? We’ve never seen more than three young pheasants with their parent. Hope you’ll see more of this family Kate!
