Clematis Montana - coaxing it to climb

I’ve directed this clematis up on to the ‘horrid stick’ which has one of the seed feeders hanging from it.
The ivy which runs for miles along the little fence at the top of the rockery has also been ‘advised’ to grow up the ‘stick’...it’ll look a bit better, hopefully.

Very true! I think I’ll have to encourage it to turn left! Then it can clamber along the low ivy fence...hopefully!
