what is your typical rain fall? that does not sound much.

Only 8" in Haytown. Our average is 18" and I think the last time we had that was a 1990's El Nino with a Seattle like 28".

My largest is just flushing some new but small growth. It's been a cool May. It's also double edged sword- cool means less water used..but it means less growth from the tropicals although the cloudforest plants are fine with cool here.

The annual average rainfall here in San Diego is around 10 inches. Most years we only receive about 8 inches. The dry season here is extremely long, this is why we can get very hot, dry weather in January and February.

My little mango tree hasn’t flushed growth, yet. Its last growth was in late November 2020. I’m digging it up and putting it into a pot.

It was really hot here in March and April, now the “May Gray” is here. It’s only been in the 70 - 78 degree range, some days only in the upper 60’s.

My advice Andy is- let it be. You will just set it back. They don't have a strong rootball. It's fine like a sponge or even like one of those tuffa scrubbers from cucumbers.
I like to use an acid fertilizer- they have extra iron and that really deepens the leaves color.
If you do dig it up- watch that the whole root ball doesn't fall apart. I saw a Florida vid where they moved a large one and the root system was flat much more than deep. They had a tree transplanting truck and lift to hold it all together. I know when I had to move one because of home repairs,it was basically the trunk and tap root. Died.

I’m putting it into a pot, because if and when I eventually move I want to take it with me. It’s 7 ft tall and looks very healthy. I was reading how to remove one this size. It looks pretty easy. I want to put it into a 15 gallon container. Hopefully, it won’t die.

I once moved an established 10ft Bougainvillea, unbelievably it survived. I had it trained as a beautiful tree.

Ok I see. You might try some peat less mix- those fir bark and sand mixes. Peat and Mangoes not a good match.

I’ll probably give it Super Thrive a week before I dig it up. I used Super Thrive on my big bougainvillea when I move it.
