Love the big leaves, Amy. I don’t know this one at all. It’s rhubarb I’m guessing? I’m not up on my fruit and veg!!!

Its not Rhubarb Kate but it is the same family , the leaves are huge ...

I try Lori its a very much trial & error in this poor sandy soil , it does look similar to a cardoon doesn't it

I think where I have placed my front garden must been an old sand pit, either that or, they dumped a whole sand pit in my yard. it swallows compost... the drainage is amazing...and I've decided it's a good spot to relocate my wildly independent hollyhocks. when you're given lemons... Make Lemonade! lol... I'm intererested in the stalks of this rheum. are they fleshy and edible? I thought you were growing cardoon.. or do I have you confused with someone else? I grew cardoon at the very beginning of my garden in town. It was huge, amazingly pretty and architectural, but alas, an annual in my zone. It's one of those lovely big (edible) plants that are completely out of fashion now. I've since found a hardy, architectural perrennial, Macleaya.. plume poppy. I first planted it 2 years ago and it is spreading happily. we had a late frost this spring, and it was frozen back, but is coming along well now.

Sorry Lori you can't eat the stalks of the Rheum Palmatum , I'm not sure if its poisonous ... you can eat the stalks of the Cardoon , also you may be thinking of Artichokes which look very similar , I'm not keen on eating them a lot of people like them they dip the 'leaves' in a sauce before eating .. also beware of the 'choke '
I had Macleaya plants in my previous garden they spread to quick and fast for my garden ,luckily you have the advantage of lots of room they look amazing in a large block ...
