I started the hedge trimming on Thursday..we finished it together today. It’s an ‘L’ shaped hedge..mix of viburnum, laurel, osmanthus and box.
I do love that almond scent of cut laurel leaves!!!!

I love seeing the trunk exposed like that Kate. You have a good eye for design.

Thank you, Ange. It’s 98% green in the front. 😊

Thank you Julia, OH had been feeling off colour and under the weather this week..post 2nd jab! He was really not good, but, much better now as he got the large hedge trimmer out to finish the hedging off.
To the left of the pic the hedging starts to slope down towards a smaller box - which is taking years to grow! 🙄
It’s off pic as is half the osmanthus. It runs down the side of next doors drive.
It ends close to the house, but we have a path that leads around the house and to the back. ( path at the other side houses the bins! )
The tall laurel/viburnum hedge is longer than it looks.

Thanks Klahanie! I’m chuffed as you have a beautiful garden and land around your home…and my hedging must seem so small compared to all yours!
Your tale of the big buck rubbing around your laurel trimmings on his back made me smile! That must have been entertaining to see! I do wonder if he was favouring the scent too - especially if it was going to make him more attractive to a passing female!!!
Great idea to use the chippings on your pathways..it would smell divine when you walked down or along.

entomologists used to crush laurel leaves to make a 'killing jar' for insects. the almond smell is from a cyanide compound. just enough to kill butterflies bees etc.
Thankfully most insects dont need to be killed to identify them.
