The start of Corymbia season. (Corymbia ficifolia)

The Eucalyptus relatives have started to bloom. Later the whole tree will be covered in red fire with dripping glistening nectar.

On closer look Kate they look so much- nearly identical- to small coldwater anemones or even some corals in tropical waters. Nature does not waste a good design. She recycles too!

That's fabulous Stan. Do the birds make the most of the nectar or is it just insects?

Probably just the insects..but maybe Hummingbirds benefit. In their native lands it would be parrots eating blooms and the big seed pods that develop.

interesting. I'd love to see a Humming Bird.

Agree with Julia, so interesting, Stan. It’s definitely an all round beautiful tree..

Its almost always a city or commercial planting of them. I don't think I've even seen one for sale. But then again, the ornamental tree sections at nurseries I usually pass up since I don't have room for trees any longer. Yet,I can also say I haven't seen one of these in a yard. Lining boulevards-yes.
I have photos of these from a few years ago in full bloom. Would you want to see them? Once is near a Taco Bell-ha. Not many of those in the UK?
Here? I was reminded of Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips shop that we had in the 1960's and I loved it at 8 years old or so. That batter was delicious. Haven't had good Fish and Chips since.

Very nice pic! I just got back from the SF Bay Area. I saw so many of these trees in full-bloom in Fremont and San Jose. They’re all in full-bloom here in San Diego, also.

Like the SF Bay Area, they’re widely used along freeways.
