Thespesia grandiflora - Maga Tree

This is the official flowering tree of Puerto Rico. It’s related to Hibiscus and the red flowers look like hibiscus flowers.
This tree is growing at my friend’s house in northern San Diego county. It’s a beautiful, large tropical tree which I had no idea could grow here. This tree is about 35 ft tall. Photo taken July 14, 2021.

I think it’s a summer bloomer. You can see the flowers amongst the leaves.
I just read it can flower throughout the year. It would be the same as Hibiscus species here.
