Coffee arabica, first flowering. (Coffee arabica)

This was a bargain bin plant for $2, five or more years ago.
This year on less water,it blooms. I think the fertilizer I gave it was a huge help. Vigaro palm fertilizer. Not sure if they sell in Canada or Europe. Should, its a big corporation.
Now,to mulch it and see how many more blooms and beans it may make.

It might. Just takes time. They do great indoors. Just never let them go dry. I remember in the 90's growing one indoors to over 3'. I gave it to somebody years later. I didn't know they could grow outdoors here.

Let us know if you ever get a cup of coffee from it!

Congrats Stan,

It looks very good. It usually takes 3 to 5 years to bloom. I think my old tree which died in the big drought first flowered and gave coffee cherries in its 4th year. Every year after it bloomed heavier and produced tons of coffee cherries. The seeds I would give away.

My coffee tree is finally growing after 3 years in too much shade. It’s the only seedling I have from my original old tree. It popped up 3 winters ago where my original coffee tree was located.

How tall is it?

Fascinating to see and obviously have too, Stan. Thank you for sharing, I can imagine you’re pretty pleased with it!

Thanks all. Kate,I thought the day was never going to come. So,to reward the plant I put a thick black mulch under it. I think it thanked me.

I think you're right, Stan! I'm really pleased it's thriving for you, especially as you've been waiting and hoping. 😊

Its about 5'. I came very close to digging it up as the problem with that spot is,over the decades I churned over that area and so water just goes straight down deep. It really should have had a roller go over it before planting. The mulch is the best that can be done now...I walked in circles around the Coffee..make better root contact.

It loves that spot! It’s getting pretty tall.

If you get good rains it’ll probably produce lots of coffee cherries.

We had huge thunderstorms yesterday and more than 1/2 inch of rain. The rain filled up my rain barrels which were empty. It was 82 degrees when it started pouring rain. The plants loved it!

We had just enough moisture to make concrete damp. Maybe help Tillandsias. No more than that.
Moving the Coffee plant is now out. Just go with it. Plus, too late in the year for moving the tropicals.
My wish Andy is for a 10b winter and plenty of rain.

Stan,

The coffee tree seems to really like that spot. I wouldn’t move it.

Yes, I’m hoping for a lot of rain, also. We need a lot of rain.
