Some people claim Dr. Seuss got his idea for his tree's from seeing Mojave desert Joshua Tree's. I don't know,I wonder if he ever traveled to Africa- or saw Aloe barberae in yards all over socal?

Dr Seuss - a blast from the past! I used to love reading those!
The tree looks prehistoric!

These are used in local low water gardens in the state. But,it turns out they come from areas that receive much rains growing on hillsides. If you want one to do well- it needs water.

Very big specimen. Is it at Knowland Zoo, Oakland?

Yep. The problem is they are short lived. One the zoo had about five years ago is gone. Flower, then die. All the fishtail palms are really near annuals. Most never last ten years.

I know that Delonix knows all that. Just for the rest of the world-ha.
But, seeing them flower here at smaller sizes then in warmer climates makes me wonder if the short lifespan just gets shorter here?
Still, they make impressive palms.
