Dichorisandra thyrsiflora - Blue Ginger Flower Spike

Dichorisandra thyrsiflora - Blue Ginger Flower Spike

My blue ginger is starting to flower. It typically blooms in late summer or early fall. This is the first time this plant has bloomed in February and March. Photo taken February 18, 2022.

That's a pleasant surprise then?
I do like the blue colour on the flowers. Is it an edible ginger plant, Andy? Is it a spreader like other gingers?

Yes, it spreads and the tuber and bulbs (it has both) are edible.

It’s not in the ginger family, though. It’s related to wondering jew plants (Tradescantia fluminensis), which is horrible weed here. I’m constantly pulling them out.
