Inherited Azalea

It looked very sad after winter. All the leaves turned black...but did not affect flowering.
The same is happening with other plants and I am trying to figure out why it is. We had extremely thick pollen from big trees around us which turned in the rain into a thick yellow paste and I think it affected number of plants. But it is only my theory. For now, as I do not have any other explanation.
