Dahlia campanulata

Dahlia campanulata (Dahlia campanulata)

This is one of the very tall Dahlias that flowers at this time of year. The unique feature to it is that the flowers are all pendulous.

How unusual.

The flowers seem to dance in the wind, so this is a really special dahlia.

That's certainly a different Dahlia to what we are accustomed to! 😀 I suppose, like our "regular" Dahlias, this one won't resist frosts either.

It doesn't start growth until midsummer, so needs to be triggered by cool but not frosty conditions. It does very well in the ground, and I don't dig it up.

As the winters are not what they used to be more & more gardeners are leaving their Dahlias in the ground overwinter & are finding that they survive & flower again the following year!

I've left my Dahlias in their pots for the last 3 years & all have survived. Even some I planted years ago in our church garden have flowered every year without any protection.

The winters really aren't what they used to be. I don't think I will need a fire tonight as my house is above 65°F.

I did get a new plant: Neomarica northiana. Someone I know in mainland Portugal sent me some! I have been wanting some for a while. It is in the Iris group.

It looks to be a very pretty Iris! 👍😀 I see it is also called "Walking Iris! 😀
