This is the smaller of the two hala trees planted in 2019 in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. This tree is already around 12 ft tall. It’s grown very fast from a 6 ft tree. Photo taken November 17, 2022. There’s a Bismarck palm to the left.

Ange2,
Definitely. Thank you.

I really love this palm, also. It’s pretty common here now. It tolerates a lot of drought and heat. It’s perfect for San Diego.

I dont see roots on the Pandanus Andy. I think it might be P.monotheca. That's they one they call the mountain Pandan. The palm is a beauty.
Its great that going into Dec-Jan you don't have to worry about frost. After Thanksgiving by a few days we drop 10f in high temperatures for that needed rains.

It does have some aerial roots. The larger one has a lot more aerial roots. I don’t know Pandanus well enough to identify the different species.
I saw it’s going to be very cold up there. It’s been warm until today, only 65 degrees. This whole week only 60’s. Lows in the 40’s and low 50’s.

Its been sunny but the needed rains are coming Thursday. Lows for me supposed to be around 38F on coldest nights. Outer bay area have had upper 20's.
I had relatives from south florida stay with me for over a week and despite near 70f,they were cold but for the warmest hours. They are used to lows being 70- all year.

For lows in the 70’s you definitely need to go to Hawaii and south Florida.
It’s typically a lot warmer here this time of year. Last year at this time it was very warm, in the 80’s and low 90’s. What a difference a year makes!
I saw the low in Hayward was 37 today and forecasted to be freezing on Friday morning. That’s very cold for Hayward.

They revised it upwards to 35/36. Not too bad considering farther from the bay its going to be a hard freeze. It rained pretty good today, filled up a couple of rain barrels. They go to water the potted plants when we get back to dry.
Its December so the coldest month of the year is back again. By mid January we are safe. Usually in modern times...

I saw the low was 34 degrees in Hayward, better than freezing. Pretty cold for early December, though. I made a comment about the rain. My mom said it poured rain yesterday. I wish we would get some rain here!
The lows here have been mostly in the low 50’s (since Sunday), so I can’t complain too much, yet. Lol. It’s been 5 degrees below normal during the daytime (only 63 to 65 degrees).

Its cold and sunny and wet all at the same time. Lots of roof frost. Plants look fine so far. The different weathercast gave different lows..34f- WC, 37f WU. So I guess it must have been 35f..wink.
I can post a pic later of the roof "snow". All that rain made for a white pre Christmas.

My sister took pictures of all the frost in Livermore this morning. It was quite extensive.

From the 7th to the 19th,rain everyday in the forecast or showers at least. Its a 1960's December. Somebody cue "Downtown"..

That’s amazing! Send some rain here. It’s been way too dry here. I’m back to watering almost every day. Ugh!
