Aloe bainesii - Tree Aloe (Aloe bainesii (Tree Aloe))

This is my friend’s tree Aloe. It will eventually grow to 40 ft (12 m) or possibly taller. Photo taken Dec. 17, 2022.

It's a fascinating shape, Delonix, the trunk and branches are very distinctive.

Yes, it’s a very architectural tree. It’s pretty widely used here in Southern California.

I do love the architecture of some trees, this one definitely so. Looks effective as a stand alone. What's the greenery growing all around, Andy, on the ground? Doesn't look like a grass variety?

The groundcover is a succulent. Probably a small-leaf ice plant species with blue or purple flowers.

About how old is that? I have one about 10-12' tall its only the last few years seems to have picked up some speed. Not sure if I will ever see it like the photo.

It’s old! 😂. It was pretty good size when my friend purchased the property back in 2002. It’s a good idea it was planted on the side of this hill. This property has a lot of natural springs. It’s so interesting to see water coming out of the ground. My friend has planted many of the thirsty tropical trees by these very wet areas.

You tree will eventually grow very tall. My friend in Oakland planted his tree in 1991 and it’s huge!
