Amaryllis in kitchen

How exciting! I wonder what colour it will be? I had a 'Red Lion' for Christmas and it has put out the most beautiful pair of scapes. I am becoming a convert, Balcony!

I had to go to a "garden" store the other day and added 4 more hippie bulbs to my collection. I'm going to try to cross them with frozen pollen from the H. papilio and the 2 H. cybister types I have that are now in bloom. I have used the pollen from H. papilio on the cybisters and hope it will take.

Glad to know you had a couple of beautiful scapes at Christmas Ange! Keep the leaves growing all summer & fertilize them with a general fertilizer now until 21st June. Then change to a tomato or rose fertilizer till September 21st when you should stop all feeding. After a couple of weeks you can stop giving them any more water till you see signs of new growth, perhaps a bud! Then start very slowly to water them again. They will need a couple of months of rest & cold (not FROST!) to start again next year.
