Very early in the season for the Bottle palm to grow new fronds...but I'm happy about it. Bougainvillea needs to be kept pot bound or it would take over a yard like mine in no time.

Stan,
Your bottle palm looks good. I know what you mean about Bougainvillea, it will take over very quickly, even the “so-called” dwarf forms.

Shirley, they are pretty common in the SF bay area, but common to be huge too! So to enjoy them in small yards potted is the way to go.
Andy there is a youtube vid about bottle palms growing near the beach in the central coast on a hillside. They can take cold and wet but they must have FAST drainage or they root rot in winter. I no doubt would have to plant them in the ground with much soil mix or pure soil mix. Clay wont work unless its a hillside.

Stan,
I saw that video. I wonder if they’re still alive.

Stan, Bougainvillea always make me think of past holidays in The Algarve, Portugal and also Malta.
