Phlomis russeliana

Phlomis russeliana

Jerusalem sage growing in our Sunvalley area
Some (most?) people do not like it but I am fond of its boldness and architectural quality. The flower spikes are sturdy , about 4+ ft tall.
Significantly drought tolerant and deer resistant.

I have only ever seen these on gardening programs, never for sale. I think they're quaint with the flowers a way apart on the stem.

Oh I do like these.

I think I first saw them on BBC Gardener's World where Monty Don had them planted in a bog garden. Would that seem the right planting place for them?

Rather big for my small garden, big, bold and dramatic though.

I'm liking the unusualness, as it's not something I've seen. Very architectural as you say.

It's an attractive plant, the flowers are really unusual, as I mentioned. It's odd that you don't get the comments on your spectacular roses, they are envy inducing! :-)
