Mangoes on tree.

They look very good. I’m sure they smell awesome, too!

I ate a couple of early developers and they did have a stronger Mango taste and scent then the market fruits. The markets were juicy and tasty,but the stronger flavor goes to my home grown fruits.

It did remind me of the taste of a pie. Like pumpkin pie only with Mangoes.

The home-grown ones are always a lot better than anything in the store (The exception are the mangoes grown in the Coachella Valley here in California, because they don’t need to be treated).

How is your mango tree growing? My tree only put out one big and then a smaller flush of growth this year. I think it’s way too shaded. I know mango trees love full sun all day.
Typically, mango trees here in sun have 3 to 7 (or more) flushes of growth per year.

The largest tree had one small flush,the smaller tree had a large flush with deep green leaves after I gave it some Vivigrow tropical plant fertilizer. Both tree's looked greener than ever from it.
I knew when the large one was covered in flowers that it wasn't going to grow much this year. When the summer stayed tepid? That assured it. They are marginal here in all ways.
Maybe I should have gone with Cherimoya.

I saw a big mango tree by the 580 freeway by Lake Merritt. I couldn’t believe all the growth and it had mangoes on it. I wish it wasn’t in such a difficult place to take a pic.

Would be great to see a photo of that. Its in prime subtropical real estate there in Oakland. About how tall was it/ wide?

It was by the on-ramp to go north from Lake Merritt right under the overpasses from 580. I’m very curious who planted it.

It looked around 12 to 14 ft tall and probably 10 ft wide, according to what I saw. So, it’s probably been there a number of years.

It looks like a lot the one by my friend’s house in San Jose.
I have never gotten a pic of that one either. The one by my friend’s house is probably 15 ft or taller. I thought it was going to look like crap after this past horrible winter, when I went there last month. It looked awesome, beautiful and lush! I think it’s to a size that the cold and rain in winter doesn’t affect it. Actually, my mango looked horrible after this winter! It’s so surprising the mango trees up in the Bay Area looked so much better than here! 🧐

This summer has been different. Most of the fruit stayed green..but the stems got brown and stiff so I know their just about ready to eat ( for sweet).

Sounds so good! 😃. I hope next year I get some mango fruit off mine. I want to see how they taste before I graft some varieties on to the little tree. The trunk has gotten pretty big after being in the ground for 3 years.
