Well you've got a blank canvas here. We had the same 3 years ago. First we decided where and what shape we wanted the path and patio and had that put in. The rest evolved and is still evolving. First we put in about 4 main beds with a focal point in each like a small tree and shrubs. Then we divided our 1/3 acre in half with a shrub border. We then put small rockeries either side of the path. In the next 2 years we put up arches, made 2 ponds, made more flower beds and borders. At the beginning we thought about screening and put conifer hedges to make more privacy. The top part of the garden is divided into 5 distint parts or rooms now, and the lower part has 3 main areas. The ideas just come as you go along, so make the sort of garden you want, and looking at other peoples also gives inspiration.
