Arbutus in flower

This shrub/small tree is a real beauty in a shady spot. It’s evergreen and this compact form doesn’t outgrow its space. The bark is a lovely cinnamon-like colour and the strawberry-like globes are reminiscent of baubles as they ripen during the depths of winter. A must-have plant for me. There is also a rosy-pink flowered form.

Well…funny you should mention that Ange..I have yet to see a bird in our garden, except for the fat Pidgeons! But I saw a beautiful Thrush in the park yesterday, so I’mmsure once the landscapers are finished (looks like the New year now) they will soon come in. Then we’ll have to find a way of discouraging them. Perhaps I’ll put a potted tree in front.

I’d be tempted to put a mirror up too…but, yes, as Ange said, we have a lot of birds and they’d head straight for it!

That's nice. I like your mirror, but daren't put one up here because of the number of birds in the garden. We had a double calamity some years ago with young thrushes - before they all disappeared from gardens.
