This mangosteen tree has been here for an amazing three years. Mangosteen is an extremely tropical tree. Even in San Diego’s very mild subtropical climate, it’s still not warm enough typically for this tree. It will be interesting if it will ever bear fruit. Photo taken September 27, 2024

It looks very healthy.
I hope it will grow well for you and eventually produce .
I have not seen it's fruit in our stores on Vancouver Island.
Is the fruit available in San Diego?

Bushbernie,
It’s located in a very protected area of the new children’s section at the San Diego Zoo. I’ll keep everyone informed.

Klahanie,
It is unbelievably healthy for it growing there for 3 years.
It would be miraculous if it ever produces fruit!
Mangosteen is only available frozen (whole fruit) from Vietnam (as far as I know). It’s not even grown commercially in Hawaii, although it does grow there.

We do sometimes see mangosteens in our supermarkets here in Queensland, but not all that often. It's more likely you'd find them at our local produce markets, especially further north near the rainforest areas.

It must be very delicious to have fresh mangosteen fruit. I’ve never tasted fresh mangosteen before.

Strange taste. Hard to describe. Mix of tart and sweet, lemony and peachy!!!

That sounds incredible! I’ve only had thawed whole frozen fruit in the past. It was good, but I’m sure not as good as fresh fruit.
