Alocasia cucullata - Chinese Taro

My Alocasia is putting out a new leaf right now. This species of Alocasia carries some of the most leaves (if not the most leaves) of any Alocasia. Photo taken December 28, 2024.

This Alocasia species typically stays pretty small, only 4 ft…but, the very common Alocasia macrorrhizos can grow into a monster plant to 15 ft (4.6 m).

Many Alocasia species look very similar. It can be very difficult to tell them apart. I still can’t distinguish the differences between Alocasia macrorrhizos and Alocasia odora. They look like the same plant to me. 😂

This one is a common plant in many tropical gardens here. People do underestimate or misunderstand the size it grows too though and it's often found cramped into small spaces, which is a shame.
