Unidentified Wild Flower

I don't know the name of this plant ,grows wild on the bankside across the road from us and near to open fields.

Don't think I've ever yet seen it wild though. Looks pretty.
Forgot to say that the German name means "king's candle".

Well, I think it's a "Koenigskerze" in German, which should give you a good laugh at least!
Am dithering over English name, but suspect it starts with a V.
Further help any minute now from other GOYers I'm sure.
