I planted these fuchsias seven years ago.the hedgerow is made up of two fuchsias alba(white) and ricartonii (red) its hieght now ranges from 6 to 10 feet high. there are very few hedgerows here in orkney. only half of the hedge cann be seen in this pic. at the bottom of the hedgerow are willow trees that i planted at the same time

those fuchias love it down here in pembrokeshire. we too have a strong salty wind and have trouble growing certain things but the fuchsias seem to do well.

hi sandra what a nice smile you have. was my ambition to have a nursery when i was young but it never happened.
these fuchsias are very hardy most hardy fuchsias struggle here but these two can grow like trees. unfortunately there are very few hedges grown here. but there are some daisy tree hedges. these have holly type leaves and get clusters of white daisy type flowers and look fantastic in bloom. they apparently thrive in coastal areas and dont mind the salt air

hi islander
olearia macrodonta (newzeand holly) it grows well here as do other olearias. we have the full south west winds off the irish sea. but because of the wind we get very little frost and so can grow many succulents and other mediteranian plants.

this is the garden at my old house sticki. was sorry to lose my hedge but ,I brought a few cuttings with me and planted them here. if you remind me I will send you a couple of cuttings of each in the spring when they start growing again. the common name for the white fuchsia is Hawkshead.
