Funnily enough, slugs - and worse - snails - are horrendous vandals in our garden but these go untouched and don't seem to mind being left pretty much to their own devices as and where they fall - each season providing a random sprinkling for the next. Maybe you've been spoiling them too much?! Going to try some more up on the allotment this year as they are great for bringing hoverflies.

Maybe I do need to treat them mean or keep them in their pots until they are tough enough to fend for themselves in the open. I have the same trouble with opium poppies. for the last 5 years I have sowed at between 500-1000 seeds in the belief that there is safety in numbers- one plant survived to flower.( i was sooo pleased) In April my borders are dotted with cut off fizzy drink bottles in an attempt to curtail the slugs eating frenzy! Never mind, I will give it a go as your photo reminded me of what Im missing.

Stunning! When I put hese in the ground they are swamped but this picture has inspired me to try them again, in pots. Im going to put them on top of the guinea pig hutches cause the slugs dont like the scratchy roof
