One Carnation

One Carnation (Dianthus)

I've learned the tip to remove the first bud of each was worth it. Definately more blooms per stem.

Definately. My first thing to smell on every visit.

wonderful flowers..and so hardy. In the florist shop they come in heavy cardboard boxes...drypacked...and cooled, direct from the fields in South America. the flowers can be taken apart and done up into smaller flowers...as exotic as your imagination can make them... and I've seen their petals combined with other flower petals..to make strange and unearthly never-before-seen flowers...for an exotic bouquet or a coursage or a wedding bouquet. Carnations rule!~

I've seen strange coloured blooms in the florists shops, too - dyed! I just hate that. Have you seen the Heathers that they sell, too - brightest blue or pink or green - all dyed. People actually pay money for them, too! Crazy or what?

Dyed flowers is definately a travesty. The poor carnation has really been manipulated. Without heavy altering, I don't think we would even have it. It's really just a very specialized dianthus. I always have to get a good laugh at the standard cobalt blue daisy we have come in up here. I'm afraid they'll stain me if I touch them. lol.
